The Berwick Police Department is a state of the art police department, operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The department employs a Police Chief, an Assistant Chief, 13 full-time officers, 4 part-time officers, a parking attendant, a full-time police clerk / dispatcher, a part-time police clerk / dispatcher, and an animal control officer. The 23 member police department is broken down into several sub-departments.
There are four sergeants in the police department. One of the Sergeants works full-time at the Berwick Area School District as the School Resource Officer. The other three Sergeants supervise each shift. The department also has a full-time Criminal Investigator as well as a full-time Narcotics Officer. Another officer specializes in immigration issues, while others are forensic specialists. Several officers are trained to conduct commercial truck inspections as well. The department focuses a great deal on training and specializing in different areas of law enforcement. This allows the department to fight crime in ways many small communities are unable to do.

| New Police Vehicles Have Arrived |

The Police Department recently received three new 2010 Dodge Chargers and one new 2010 Ford Expedition, purchased by the Borough Council. Several years ago, after enduring years of going without new vehicles, the Council created a police car rotation program, where new vehicles would be purchased and financed over a period of several years. Upon the completion of financing, a new round of vehicles would be purchased. This would ensure the police department would have state of the art equipment and vehicles to perform their very important duties. This program has resulted in a complete overhaul of the police car fleet, a fleet that only several years ago did not have a single vehicle with less than 100,000 miles on them.
The Department purchased the Dodge Chargers after learning that the Ford Crown Victorian would no longer be manufactured. The Expedition was purchased with the intent of using during bad weather as well as using as an Incident Command vehicle. With the addition of these vehicles, the Borough Police Department will continue to be able to operate in a safe and efficient manner, without worrying about the functionability of their vehicles while answering incidents or during pursuits.
